Registration Now Open

We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for The Place of Public Service Broadcasting at the University of York on the 4th of July, 2013.

This conference will examine the rapidly changing nexus of concerns around the role of public service broadcasting in an era marked by the advent of digital distribution, the expansion of bandwidth and, arguably, the diminishing importance of the national as a locus of identity for broadcasters and audiences.

The event will showcase the contributions of academics from various disciplinary backgrounds as well as a roundtable featuring practitioners discussing their experiences with and ideas about public service broadcasting and an ECREA sponsored panel on changing technology and public service broadcasting. 

We are also pleased to be featuring keynote addresses from Professor Petros Iosifidis and Dr James Bennet.

Petros Iosifidis and James Bennett Confirmed as Keynote Speakers

We are proud to announce that Petros Iosifidis and James Bennett will be appearing as keynote speakers at The Place of Public Service Broadcasting.

The author of Playing to Win: The Political Economy of Television Sports Rights (Forthcoming) and Public Television in Europe: Technological Challenges and New Strategies and editor of Reinventing Public Service Communication: European Broadcasters and Beyond, Professor Iosifidis is the Professor of Media and Communication Policy at the City University of London.

Dr James Bennett is a Senior Lecturer at Royal Holloway.  In addition to co-editing the recent collection, Television as Digital Media, Dr Bennett is one of the principal investigators on the AHRC funded Multi-Platforming Public Service Broadcasting project.

We are delighted to have two such prominent researchers in the field presenting their work at the conference.
